Autism and The Arts, Page Nine

YouTube versus Artists: Success in art often comes down to a chance encounter with a potential collector during a gallery show or ‘open studio’ meet-and-greet. A personal bond is formed and a career modestly begins. This is harder to pull off than you may imagine, but YouTube potentially offers a solution to this problem.

Gaze of The Other: Do autistic artists approach the idea of human figures differently? What would that look like? Modern art liberated artists from the idea of realism, and what may have begun as autistic predilection for individual artists soon became defining features for many art movements.

Reluctant Buffet: Time-lapse Completion This oil painting is on wood panel. I document sixty hours of work on it in five-plus minutes of film. The actual painting is more like a hundred hours from start to finish. I plan on doing a separate video about varnishing this painting.

Jumping Bean Burrito: Time-lapse Completion This time lapse drawing presents a surreal variation on a cowboy theme.

How to Varnish A Painting: In this video, I varnish a painting I recently completed in another video. Two varnishes are discussed: Gamblin’s Gamvar and Winsor & Newton’s Brillant. Varnish is tricky, but varnishing is trickier. Everything you need to know as a painter.

The piece of music for this video is "Lullaby in Chalk" from my latest Bandcamp album, Ancient Astronauts.
